Chairman's Chat

It’s May. Where have the last four months gone? With the mild winter our bees have had an early spring build up, so if possible check that your bees have plenty of room to expand. Put on supers and/or new foundation so they have something to work on. It’s a good thing to give them clean floors and crown boards, too, also check for varroa and treat accordingly. I have had calls to 2 swarms, one captured in the box the other flew before I got there, therefore keep vigilant in case your bees are ready for pastures new. Your apiary at Bastonford is progressing well with good strong hives – which have had supers added and some old comb changed. We will be replacing the two poly hives with 14x12 cedar boxes on our next visit as the poly’s have got too old to keep clean. Remember if you need help it can be arranged. STAY SAFE, STAY WELL, STAY SANE.
