CHAIRMANS CHAT

We are now into August and only one month left of the season , unless you are a ‘Heather Gatherer’. It is also time to take off the seasons honey. Before you start ensure all kit is clean and ready , containers well sterilised and the area you use well scrubbed. Its good practice to put back on the extracted wet supers for the bees to clean up and give them back some of their hard work before they are stored. The supers will store better if kept wax moth, wasp and other pests free. Wrapped in cling film is an easy method and the supers will be well protected.

Prepare for winter feeding with your preferred method. Feeders cleaned , sugar or solution organized , fondant and pollen patties sourced.

Finally access your colony for overall health and quantity of bees. And most of all check and treat for varroa. The lower the varroa count the more chance your bees have of getting through the winter.
